Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about his chances of participating.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations around that, not just his injury, but other factors as well," Bailey remarked.

"It's positive. There's strong faith that he will feature a significant role. Ideally starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his rehabilitation process to secure his spot for the series.

He mentioned that there was no confirmation if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "becoming urgent" for him to regain fitness for the first Test.

Backup Options

Should Cummins not be fit, ex-skipper Smith will assume leadership.

The talented all-rounder was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against India as a safety move because of soreness in his side.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he's scheduled to appear in the state-level matches, so will be "ideally positioned to be ready to bowl."

"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," he elaborated.

"He was only going to play the initial matches anyway. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
